After earning an M.A. in English, Frances tried her hand at a few jobs, including teaching grammar at the University of Ottawa. When it dawned on her that she could apply what she taught, she decided to try freelance editing and writing. That, with regular teaching on the side, is what she’s been doing ever since.
Frances works on all kinds of material, from websites and brochures to reports and policy documents, and on all kinds of subjects, including workplace safety, mining, business coaching, and communications. Her popular courses and workshops deal with broad topics, such as Plain Language and report writing, as well as the finer points of punctuation and usage. She is a member of West Coast Editorial Associates.
Variety is Frances’s leisure motto too. She’s an avid reader and moviegoer, a music lover and one-time bass guitarist, a volunteer for the Editors’ Association of Canada, and a fitness fan who aspires to hike up every Vancouver-area mountain.
